The history of Finnegaarden
The buildings originally date from 1702, after a great fire ravaged Bryggen. They are built in the traditional Hanseatic style with characteristic timber constructions and charming narrow alleyways.
Throughout the centuries, Finnegaarden has been a center of trade and commerce in Bergen. The Hanseatic merchants used the buildings as warehouses and offices, and the historic atmosphere is well preserved to this day.
Det Hanseatiske Hotell today
Today Finnegaarden houses Det Hanseatiske Hotell, with 37 unique rooms and suites, as well as the restaurants FG Restaurant & Bar and Finnegaardsstuene. The hotel is decorated with respect for the buildings' historic soul, with authentic materials and details from the Hanseatic era.
Visitors can walk through the same alleyways that the Hanseatic merchants used 300 years ago, and experience a combination of historic atmosphere and modern comfort that is unique in Bergen.
